Alvar Aalto Symposium has been organized since 1979. The idea for this event was created together with Elissa Aalto, Göran Schildt, Markku Lahti (director of Alva Aalto museum) and director Juhani Pallasmaa (Museum of Finnish Architecture). The first chairman was architect Kirmo Mikkola. He saw the purpose of the symposium as “keeping alive the spirit of Alvar Aalto’s work through discussing the artistic, social and technical problems of architecture”.
The 14th International Alvar Aalto Symposium is organized with the same attitude. This time the focus is on future housing with the intention looking at topic extensively. Program consists of 9 keynote lectures which are intended to offer a comprehensive understanding of the theme. In addition, there will be four parallel sessions with specific viewpoints: Cultural variables, Sharing, Adaptability and Digitalization. All together the Symposium will have 21 highly merited speakers and plenty of casual program.
